Copenhagen was such an adorable city- and so white and crisp! Ive never seen a cleaner city- it was all pristine. We had a hotel near the famous Nyhavn area, and spent a first night having beers listening to live music along the harbour. This was Lauren's birthday night, and I was so happy to spend her 25th together!
Hans Christian Anderson, the fairy tale writer was from Denmark, and the city is full of little tributes to him, the most famous being the little mermaid statue. We decided to spend our second day by heading to the little mermaid statue first, it was absolutely adorable.
On our way back, we ambled past parks and ended up at Amaliasborg Palace. This was followed by the most amazing lunch (separate post) and then a visit to the free city of Christiana. This is a city in the middle of Copenhagen that has no government and is completely free of rules. They have their own society and no pictures allowed- but it was crazy. I'm sure you can imagine.
Afterwards we climbed up the spiral tower of the Church of our Savior, it was incredibly high up ... and terrifying and to make matters worse, it started raining and once we were already at the top, people started talking about how the tower fell twice in the past 20 years.
Following this hectic day of activity- we closed our night at Tivoli Park, drinking wine and cheese on a terrace enjoying the free Friday night concerts.
The next day was all about palaces - Rosenborg and Christiansborg. Rosenborg housed the crown jewels and was the old summer palace. Christiansborg is where the current queen conducts her business. The palaces were both beautiful- but the tapestries in Christiansborg were something like I've never seen before! Gorgeous.
