Dutch for a Day

Last weekend, a friend took me to a grand tour of 3 cities which we finished in less than a day!!

First stop, Zaans Schans--- It was an outdoor museum of old dutch windmills and other memorabilia. For instance, the original Albert Heijn (grocery store here... think HEB)... There was also a spot to rent bikes! It was a lovely day and perfect for walking around!

Next stop, Volendaam. It is a coastal town... and since it was such a beautiful day we just walked around and looked at the sail boats and enjoyed a beer :)

Finally, Hoorn. Now I know 3 new areas! Hoorn is just another big city like Haarlem, it was very beautiful with a large center, and large Saturday market. We saw a goregeous church their too! Holland is not entirely a Christian nation, which is not bad at all, but I think we are not used to that as Americans. It is also not commonplace to walk inside a church older than the entire United States. But let me tell you, walking in made me feel whole again. :)

Bon Voyage!

  1. Looks like an amazing tour. Love the windmills and water-side views! I bet biking on a sunny day there would be nice
